Artist's Bio

Stephen Carver was born in Syracuse, NY, and was the recipient
of a Kodak Special Award in high School in 1962. He attended
Syracuse University School of Art, and graduated in 1968
recieving a BFA, with a major in sculpture and minors in photography
and filmmaking. He received an MS in Art Education from the
State University of New York. The concentration for his masters thesis
was multimedia and digital art. Since age sixteen he has worked
with a camera and film and traditional art materials, creating portraits,
landscapes, figure studies, abstractions still-life images in the studio
and out doors in nature. In 1993 he began his college teaching career
and since has taught many college courses at Iona College, in New York
State And Bloomfield College, and Bergen Community College in
New Jersey. Courses taught include photography, digital imaging,
computer graphics and fine art. In 1994 Stephen began working digitally,
using a scanner to copy drawings and paintings and further manipulating
them digitally in the computer. By scanning traditional media art work
and combining it with photographic images he is able to create a unique
type of digital image which has some photographic qualities.

Carver's work is in the collections of Vanessa Gonzalez foundation,
Helios Arts and Environmental Institute, and SUNY, New Paltz;
He has exhibited work at the Woodstock Artists Association,
Woodstock, NY; Roots Gallery, Mt Tremper, NY; Cafe Caroline,
Saratoga, NY; Muggleton Gallery, Auburn, NY; Lowe Art Center,
Suracuse, NY; and is currently exhibiting at Bergen Community
College, Paramus, NJ and SRC Gallery, Sussex, NJ; among others.
